Last night I submitted a set of 5 photos to World Nomads Scholarships, telling a story of a place I have visited. I choose Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. You can click on the title (TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP) to view my photos. The winner will go on an 11 day assignment to Antarctica with one of National Geographic Photographers and will get $2000 worth of Pentax equipment.

From their site:
On the Expedition, you will work alongside Jason Edwards photographing some of the planet's most impressive wildlife including Minke & Humpback Whales, Leopard Seals, Penguins, Albatross and dramatic iceberg landscapes. You will gain invaluable mentoring and hands-on experience in everything from shot set up, technique and composition through to insights into his many years of diverse experience as an award winning photographer.

UPDATED SITE

So last night I updated my site and also began to organize the photos a little more. I put them into simple categories for now. As I gather more work I will break them down into more sub categories. I decided to add a category called "Latest Work" here I will put my most recent work, after it has been there for a while it will go into the other categories. I find this helpful so that you know what is the latest stuff and not have to look for it in the other groups.Let me know what you think. And as always thanks for visiting. Don't forget to drop me a message.

NEW LENS

Hello,

So last week I got a new lens. I had done extensive research on it and seen many photos taken with it. So I decided to get it. I'm talking about the Canon 100-400mL. It's a supertelephoto lens. I have taken a few trips to capture some wildlife. Hopefully soon I will be posting some photos I have taken with it. As always thank you for reading and visiting my site.

ART SHOW

I am really exited to tell you that last night (Friday 20th) I participated in an art show for the first time. I had 3 of my photography pieces on display and I also put them up for sale. The place is a Yoga studio close to LAX. It seemed like people really liked my stuff and choice of frames for the pieces. Thanks everybody for the positive comments. Soon I will hope to start showing more of my work in other art shows. I'll keep you posted.

MACRO WORK

Wow, it has been a while. I have been a bit busy at work and with my photography. Lately I got to try a macro lens that my friend Reid Young let me borrow (thanks Reid). I have to say it was awesome taking photos at the macro level. Now instead of looking straight ahead looking for things to photograph you have to be looking down and really low. I got to take a few good photos with it. I have added a macro lens to my "wish" list. It's amazing looking at bugs and waiting for a good composition or moment to snap the photo you notice how they eat, and detail that you never saw before. It sure takes tons of patience and waiting but when you get a good photo it's a happy moment.

MACRO STUDIO

Hey again,

So I had been wanting to build a macro studio. I finally had a little time to do it. Some people use pvc pipe to do it and some use cardboard boxes. I want it a little more durable and stable so I built it out of wood. For my dimensions I choose 2 1/2' x 2' x 2'. I covered the sides with vellum paper and bought foam board for the base. I made some really quick exposures just to test it out. I need to use a cleaner paper for the backdrop without spots wrinkles or any other thing that might show up on the photo. I think all this cost me about $28. If you have any question please contact me. Thanks

Here are a few photos of my frame and semi-final product.

And here are a few quick exposures I took. I didn't do much if any post work to them. I wanted to see what I got straight out of the camera.

GUMMYS ARE FUN

Last Sunday it was a beautiful day. So my daughter and I were playing outside and she got some toys out. We were also eating gummy bears. So I got this idea of shooting a few gummy bears in combination with one of her mini-realistic-cool-awesome looking chairs. Here is what I got, "Three Little Bears."

B&W DELICATE HANDS

In the past week that I was going through my photos I felt and urge to work on black and white, so I fixed about 10 pieces. I also found a piece that I wanted to post related to hands. It was amazing how many things I could not do because of my injury on my thumb. Sometimes we forget to be grateful for our body. I wish to say I am grateful for my hands and in honor I have done this piece which I call "Delicate Hands." I came across this place while doing a walking meditation. I hope you like it.

ALMOST AS GOOD AS NEW

Wishing everybody a happy new year. So finally my stitches are out and hopefully in a few days I will be as good as new. Still can't put too much pressure on the thumb but I will try to pick up my camera again. I surely missed taking photos. I came across so many wonderful cloud formations, fog, snow, sunsets and sunrises and could only record them in my head.

NO EXPOSURES FOR A WHILE

Hello Again,
First of all happy holidays I hope that all of you have a wonderful time with the ones you love. Second thanks for the positive comments. So on Saturday the 20th while sharpening a knife I accidentally got a huge cut on my left thumb, and had to get five stitches. So unfortunately I am unable to do many things, one of them being taking photos. At least until I am able to bend and move my thumb more freely. During this time I will take advantage of sorting about 1000 photos I have from previous shootings so I can upload more photos to my website. Thanks.

NEW WEBSITE

I hadn't updated my website in about 3 years. I decided to re-design it, and after a few weeks it's up and running as of now. I hope you like it. I have created an album with my photography for easy viewing. Thanks
